| Description: | This project involves the replacement of Bridge 1-714. The scope of work is to replace the existing bridge with a new one. The new bridge will be constructed adjacent and just to the north of the existing bridge. The new bridge will consist of two spans over NB and SB I-95 with a wall supported embankment across the median. The new bridge will include a full width sidewalk and shoulders to carry pedestrian and bike traffic. | ||
| Justification: | Deterioration of the existing concrete deck and substructure and loss of section of the existing steel girders has caused the bridge to become structurally deficient. The bridge was selected by the Pontis Bridge Management System for work. Replacement of this bridge will help the Department meet its performance measures for percentage of bridges in poor condition and the percentage of structurally deficient bridges by deck area on the NHS. This bridge is ranked 58th on the 2016 DelDOT Bridge Deficiency List (out of 1625 total bridges). |
