Traffic Information: The Delaware Department of Transportation's (DelDOT) Traffic Signal Construction in conjunction with Byers Industrial will convert the left-turn signal phasing on the Eastbound and Westbound Route 2/Kirkwood Highway approaches to the Flashing-Red-Arrow (FRA) operation to improve safety and the existing delays. The FRA will be operational for 24 hours, seven days a week.
In addition, DelDOT will install on the mast arms, east and west of the intersection overhead "LEFT TURN YIELD ON FLASHING RED ARROW AFTER STOP" signs. To increase safety, DelDOT will also install a "Truck U-TURN" prohibition overhead sign on eastbound Route 2/Kirkwood Highway preventing trucks from making U-Turn in this direction.
Motorists should expect delays due to the construction and intermittent lane closures along Route 2/Kirkwood Highway and Clifton Avenue for the installation of the new signal equipment and signage.
Times and Dates: 8 PM until 5 AM weekdays, starting on Wednesday, September 15 until late-October, pending weather.
Location: Route 2/Kirkwood Highway and Clifton Avenue intersection, Newark.
Police and flaggers will be on-site to direct traffic.
Motorists should be aware of construction crews and slowdown in work zones.
