Press Release -- April 05, 2011
Annual Underwater Scour and Pier Inspection Set for Indian River Inlet Bridge

Indian River -- The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that Collins Engineers will be performing a fathometer survey on the piers of the existing Indian River Inlet Bridge on Monday, April 11 and Tuesday, April 12. This annual study provides data which allows DelDOT to determine if any additional, significant scouring has occurred along the piers of the existing bridge. Surveys conducted over the last 3 years have shown that there has not been any significant scouring to the piers.

This daytime operation will require engineers to work from a boat in the inlet to obtain data on the bridge and its piers. Therefore, this work will not require any lane closures or impact to motorists.

Information on the construction of the new Indian River Inlet Bridge can be found at www.irib.deldot.gov.
