Virtual Workshop

US40 and SR7 Intersection Improvements

Comment submission has ended. Thank you.

Welcome to the Delaware Department of Transportation’s virtual workshop. The goals of the virtual workshop format are to make it easier for more people to view the project information, and to reduce the costs involved in traditional public workshops. This is a workshop regarding the intersection improvements of Pulaski Highway (US40) and Bear Christiana Road (SR7) in New Castle County, South of the Christiana Mall. In 2010, this intersection was part of the hazardous elimination program due to the high accident rate. 196 accidents were reported between 2006 and 2010, with 80 percent of the accidents resulting in rear end crashes. This study also showed that there was significant pedestrian activity within the study area which need to be upgraded.

As seen on the display board, Deldot proposes to add a 10 foot wide multi use path to connect from governors place on SR7 to the existing multi use path on Quintillo Drive. Along with this proposed multi use path, Deldot is proposing a 5 foot wide concrete sidewalk from governors place on SR7 to the existing bus pad south of Songsmith Drive, from the existing bus pad on the northbound SR7 side down to US40, and along Wawa’s property along US40. Deldot is also proposing pedestrian facilities that would allow pedestrians to cross US40 and SR7. The SR7 southbound and SR7 northbound right turn lanes will also be extended closer to us40 to better accommodate motorists view of oncoming traffic.
