300 feet north and south of the bridge
There is significant corrosion and rust staining at the waterline with 100% section loss in several areas throughout the pipes. The existing pipes are structurally deficient and were selected by the Pontis Bridge Management System for work. This bridge currently has a 69.6 sufficiency rating and is ranked among the bridges in need of replacement on the 2014 DelDOT Bridge Deficiency List.
This project involves the replacement of two existing 60" corrugated metal pipes with precast reinforced concrete pipes. Additional work includes reconstruction of the approach roadway, riprap placement in the streams for scour protection, and the installation of guardrail as needed. The work will be performed under full road closure with detour.
Design work to be completed no later than March 2016.
Construction work to be completed in February 2017.
Due to complete road closure during the construction phase, the closure will be evaluated for possible school bus and dart bus route disturbances.
