500' west and 200' east of the center of the bridge.
The existing structure is two large corrugated metal pipes arches with concrete headwalls and wingwalls. There are numerous perforations along the pipes and deep pitting. The wingwalls are also spalling. The bridge is structurally deficient and was selected by the Pontis Bridge Management System for work. It has a sufficiency rating of 69.8 and ranked 63rd in the 2013 DelDOT Bridge Deficiency List.
This project involves removal and replacement of the existing pipes and headwalls in their entirety. The replacement structure will be concrete box beams on concrete abutments on driven concrete piles. Riprap will be placed to stabilize the channel and banks to prevent scour and erosion. Within the project limits, the pavement and guardrail will be upgraded and tied into the Paving project from 2018. The work will be performed under a full road closure.
Design work to be completed no later than February 2019.
Construction work to be completed December 2019.
