Approximately 200 feet east and west of the bridge along Irish Hill Road.
The existing structure is two large corrugated metal pipes arches with concrete headwalls and wingwalls. There are numerous perforations along the pipes and deep pitting. The wingwalls are also spalling. The bridge is structurally deficient and was selected by the Pontis Bridge Management System for work. It has a sufficiency rating of 69.8 and ranked 63rd in the 2013 DelDOT Bridge Deficiency List.
This project involves removal and replacement of the existing pipes in their entirety. The replacement structure will be concrete box beams on abutments. This project will also involve stabilizing the channel and banks to prevent scout, minor reconstruction of approach roadways and installation of guardrail. The work will be performed under a full road closure.
Design work to be completed no later than October 2015.
Construction work to be completed in the spring of 2016.
