Deck and approaches of BR 1-717 on I-95 NB over SR1 at the Christiana Interchange
Deterioration of the concrete deck had caused the bridge to become structurally deficient.
This project involved the rehabilitation of Bridge 1-717. The scope of work included replacement of the existing concrete deck and barriers with a new precast concrete deck and precast barriers.
Design work completed November 30, 2015.
Construction completed Fall of 2016.
This project was completed on an accelerated schedule to limit impact to traffic. NB traffic was restricted from four to three through lanes for the first 19 days and NB and SB traffic was restricted from four to three through lanes for the following 19 days. The total number of days the contractor was allowed to restrict traffic full time on I-95 was 38 days. The contractor was paid an incentive for early completion and charged a disincentive if they fail to complete the project on schedule. Lane restrictions on I-95 were planned to begin on or about October 1, 2016.
