Subject: AstraZeneca-Historic Blue Ball Project Extended (Project to Design Park and Road Improvements for "Gateway to Brandywine Hundred" Narrowing in on a Concept Plan)

Wilmington, DE - Citing a need to provide the community with more time to evaluate the traffic data and proposed traffic improvement plans for Route 141, U.S. Route 202, Augustine Cut-Off and Foulk Road, the Historic Blue Ball Project Policy Committee, comprised of representatives of the Delaware Economic Development Office (DEDO), Department of Transportation (DelDOT), Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) and Brandywine legislators announced today a revised project timeline. The Historic Blue Ball planning committees had hoped to recommend a concept plan on park design and road alignments on December 15. The new timeline extends that decision-making timeframe to mid-January.

"We feel the Brandywine Hundred community needs more time to review the specific road improvement options that have been presented over the past several months," said Darrell J. Minott, Director of the Delaware Economic Development Office and Chairman of the Historic Blue Ball project. "Since August community residents have reviewed well over 200 road options. With the options now narrowed to a more workable number of four, and the traffic analysis data available - now comes the hard part for the Brandywine Hundred community - making their final recommendation. This revised schedule provides the time and the opportunity to accomplish this task."

State Representative Robert J. Valihura, Jr. (R-Talleyville) stated: "Traffic counts and origin and destination data related to traffic flow on the roads in the Route 202 Corridor surrounding the Historic Blue Ball site are just now becoming available to the project advisors and to the public. The processes of public review, consideration, comment and recommendation that was implemented at the beginning and is vitally important to the success of this project cannot be accomplished without a meaningful opportunity to review that data. This extension will allow for a more thorough review and more thoughtful consideration of the traffic planning and open space preservation alternatives available to the public in this gateway corridor to Brandywine Hundred."

The enhancement of this area is in cooperation with the signature AstraZeneca deal that is bringing the world's third largest pharmaceutical company's U.S. headquarters to Delaware. AstraZeneca will be expanding its current campus across Route 141 to the area known as "The Triangle." The Historic Blue Ball Committees have been meeting since August to discuss and make recommendations on roadway improvements for Route 141, Augustine Cut-Off and Foulk Road, and provide a conceptual recreation plan for 222 acres adjacent to "The Triangle" known as the Blue Ball properties.
