Approximately 300 feet south and 200 feet north of the bridge
The existing corrugated metal arches are structurally deficient and were selected by DelDOT's Pontis Bridge Management System for work. The metal arches have corrosion at the waterline with 100% section loss at some locations. There is also erosion under the approach guardrail. For these reasons, a project has been initiated to replace this structure.
This project involves the entire removal of 3 large existing corrugated metal pipe arches. They will be replaced with reinforced concrete pipes. The approach roadways shall be reconstructed as needed and riprap shall be placed in the stream for scour protection. The work shall be performed under a full road closure with a detour. The proposed cross section shall consist of two 11 foot lanes and 2 foot barrier offsets.Final Plans
