Approximately 200 feet south and 300 feet north of the bridge along Polly Branch Road.
Bridge 3-409 is located north of Selbyville in Sussex County, Delaware. The structure consisted of three 71 inch x 47 inch corrugated metal pipe arches with a total length of approximately 50 feet and a sack rip-rap headwall encompassing the inlet and outlet of the structure. The replacement was due to significant corrosion and subsequent diminishing structural integrity of the structure.
The scope of the project was to replace the existing corrugated metal pipe arches with three 5 foot reinforced concrete pipes at approximately 60 feet in length. Additional improvements included minor approach roadway work, placing rip-rap in the stream for scour protection and removal of the sack rip-rap headwall. The work will be performed under a full road closure with a posted detour.
