[Location Map] Bridge 3-941 has been identified by DelDOT's Bridge Management Section as being in need of replacement. The bridge is located on Greentop Road over Cedar Creek, South of Lincoln in Sussex County

[East Elevation] Bridge 3-941 consists of three 55 inch x 73 inch corrugated metal pipes with a total length of approximately 50 feet.

[General View:] The metal pipes of this bridge consists of galvanized steel and has been in place for approximately 36 years. Although most of the structure has held up well, areas on some of the pipes have experienced heavy rust. Because of this, there has been a significant loss of metal at some of these areas. It is important to note that the bridge remains safe to carry normal traffic at this time; however, significant corrosion, deterioration and continued structural deficiencies warrant a full bridge replacement.

[Bridge Plan, Section and Elevation] As seen on the bridge plan, section and elevation sheet, DelDOT proposes to replace the existing metal pipe arch structure with reinforced elliptical concrete pipes. Additionally, minor approach roadway work shall be completed and riprap shall be placed into the stream bed and along the side slopes to protect the proposed bridge and prevent scour or erosion of the stream channel. This work should take approximately 40 days to complete and is scheduled to occur during the spring or summer of 2015.

[Detour Plan] During construction, the road will be closed in order to perform the proposed work. As you can see, a temporary detour has been planned to accommodate the traveling public.

[Detour Map] This map more clearly demonstrates the route that thru-traffic will take during the temporary road closure. Motorists will be given advance notice of this closure. From the north, motorists on Greentop Road (s225) will be directed left onto Clendaniel Pond Road (s38), right onto Fleatown Road (s 224), and then continue straight onto Pine Road (s225d) to Greentop Road (s225). From the south, motorists on Greentop Road (s225) will be directed right onto Pine Road (s225d), continue straight onto Fleatown Road (s224), and then left onto Clendaniel Pond Road (s38) to Greentop Road (sr225).

[Construction Plan] Although DelDOT strives to perform as much of the work as possible within the department's existing right-of-way, sometimes the nature of the work requires a larger area then what is provided. That is the case for this project. As can be seen on the plan sheet, right-of-way and easements will be needed from adjacent property owners in order to complete the work.

Right-of-way will be required for the placement and maintenance of the rip-rap in and around the stream, or topsoil, grass seed, and mulch on the stream banks. The placement of the sandbags and to divert the stream flow so the in-stream work can be completed. These areas will be restored to their natural condition upon completion of the work. A Real Estate representative will be in contact with the affected property owners to explain the department's real estate process.
