[Location Map]:
Bridge 2-126A has been identified by DelDOTs bridge management system as being in need of repair. The bridge is located in a rural area on Holletts Corner Road near the Maryland borderline.

[General]:
This project consists of two corrugated metal pipes that have active corrosion with measurable section loss.

[Corrosion 1 & Corrosion 2]:
The corrosion has resulted in a loss of section over the length of the pipes. Although the pipes are safe to carry normal traffic at this time, the condition of the existing pipes warrants a full replacement of the structure.

[Construction Plan ]:
In keeping with the Departments mission that includes providing a safe, efficient, and environmentally sensitive transportation network, DelDOT is proposing the replacement of Bridge 2-126A as seen on the plan sheet. The proposed improvements will have the existing metal pipes replaced with reinforced concrete pipe in the same location. Additional work will include placing riprap in the stream for scour protection, and minor road reconstruction.

[Detour Plan]:
Because of the nature of the work and DelDOTs commitment to safety of the public, a portion of the roadway will be closed for the duration of the project. As can be seen on the Detour Plan, motorists heading towards Holletts Corner Road will be directed to Longridge Road.

[Construction Plan]: Although we strive to perform as much of our work within our existing right-of-way as possible, sometimes the nature of the work requires a larger area than what is provided, as is the case for this project. Minor easements will be required from the adjacent property owners to complete this work. Permanent easements will be required for the placement of the riprap in and around the stream. The riprap will be buried and covered with streambed material (in the stream) or topsoil, grass seed, and mulch (stream banks). Temporary construction easements will be needed beyond the permanent easements for the placement of sandbags so that the in-stream work can be completed and for the tie-in grading. These areas will be restored to their natural condition upon completion of the work. A real estate representative will contact the affected property owners shortly to go over the Departments Real Estate process.
