Approximately 200 feet north and south of the bridge along Foulk Road.
The concrete deck slab was structurally deficient and was selected by DelDOT's Pontis Bridge Management System for work. The deck slab was showing signs of deterioration including cracks and large spalls with exposed corroded steel reinforcement on the bottom side. The foundations of this bridge were also exposed due to severe scour conditions. This bridge was ranked 56th in DelDOT's 2013 Bridge Deficiency List. For these reasons, a project to replace the structure was initiated.
This project involved the replacement of the prestressed concrete beams with new prestressed concrete box beams and a concrete deck. Additional work included rehabilitation of the abutments, minor reconstruction of the approach roadway, and placement of extensive riprap in the stream to stabilize the channel and prevent scour. The work was performed in phases while maintaining traffic on Foulk Road.
Design work was completed April, 2015.
Construction completed Summer 2016.
