Approximately 300 feet east and west of the bridge along Daisey Road
This bridge consists of two large steel plate arches. There was significant corrosion at the waterline with 100% section loss at several locations throughout the pipes. There was also minor loss of fill near the approaches. The existing pipe arches were structurally deficient and were selected by the Pontis Bridge Management System for work. This bridge was ranked 118th on the 2013 DelDOT Bridge Deficiency List. Due to this, a project to replace this structure was initiated and completed.
This project involved the replacement of the existing steel plate arches. They were removed in their entirety and replaced with prestressed concrete box beams on concrete abutments. Additional work included minor reconstruction of the approach roadway, installation of guardrail as needed, and placement of riprap in the stream to stabilize the channel and stream slopes. The work was performed under a full road closure with detour.
