The comment period for Beach Highway over Maple March Ditch (BR 3-915) has ended. Thank you.
Welcome to the Delaware Department of Transportation's virtual workshop. The goals of the virtual workshop format are to make it easier for more people to view the project information, and to reduce the costs involved in traditional public workshops. This is a workshop regarding the replacement of bridge 3-915 on SR 16 Beach Highway over Maple Marsh Ditch.
[Bridge Photos]: Bridge 3-915 has been identified by DelDOT’s bridge management system as being in need of replacement. The bridge is located in a rural area on SR16 Beach Highway over Maple Marsh Ditch. This bridge is a set of two corrugated aluminum pipes that have significant corrosion at the waterline and 100 percent section loss at several locations. The existing pipes are structurally deficient and as a result have been selected for replacement. Although the structure is safe to carry normal traffic at this time, the condition of the existing structure warrants a full superstructure replacement.
[Construction Plan] As seen on the plan sheet, DelDOT is proposing to replace the existing corrugated aluminum pipes with reinforced concrete pipes. Additional work will include the placement of riprap in the stream for scour protection, grading of stream banks and side slopes, and minor reconstruction of the approach roadway.
[Bridge Plan, Section, and Elevation]: The Department strives to provide a safe, efficient, and environmentally sensitive transportation network; therefore, DelDOT is proposing the replacement of Bridge 3-915.
[Detour Plan]:Because of the nature of the work and DelDOT’s commitment to safety of the public, a portion of the roadway will be closed for the duration of the project. As can be seen on the Detour Plan, motorists heading east on SR16 Beach Hwy will take N Union Church Road to Fitzgeralds Road to DuPont Boulevard to SR16 Beach Highway. Motorists heading west on SR16 Beach Hwy will take DuPont Boulevard to Fitzgeralds Road to N Union Church Road to SR16 Beach Highway.
[Construction Plan]:Although we strive to perform as much of our work within our existing right-of-way as possible, sometimes the nature of the work requires a larger area than what is provided, as is the case for this project. Minor easements will be required from the adjacent property owners to complete this work. Temporary construction easements will be needed beyond the permanent easements for the reshaping of the roadside slopes. These areas will be restored to their natural condition upon completion of the work. A real estate representative will contact the affected property owners to discuss the Department’s Real Estate process.
