What is Being Done by DelDOT?

DelDOT is concerned about the water quality of Delaware's streams, beaches and rivers. As a result, we are taking action to minimize the pollutants that have caused beach closures, fish kills, toxic streams and ponds. DelDOT is committed to programs that will help clean these waterways and create a safe environment for our community. A few of these programs include:
Inventory and Inspection Programs

DelDOT is inventorying and inspecting all components of its stormwater drainage system, including inlets, manholes, pipes, swales, outfalls and Best Management Practices (BMPs). The goal of the inventory and inspection is to detect any illicit discharges and identify maintenance needs before a major problem arises. To learn more, please see Monitoring Programs and Drainage System Inventory.

Construction Sites

DelDOT has implemented many procedures during site planning and construction to minimize short and long term impacts to water quality. For more information, please see Construction Sites.

Streets and Highways

Our programs for operating and maintaining public streets, roads and highways minimize the discharge of pollutants. For more information,
please see Streets and Highways.

BMPs

DelDOT operates and maintains public streets, roads, and highways to minimize the discharge of pollutants. Stormwater Best Management Practices or BMPs are practices that are used to reduce pollutants typically present in stormwater runoff, prior to the runoff entering streams and rivers. For more information,
please see BMPs.

Public Education

DelDOT is committed to engaging the public in stormwater pollution prevention. We all have a responsibility to help keep our waterways clean. For more information, please see Public Education.
