Watershed
A "watershed" is an area that ultimately drains to a particular watercourse or body of water. Everyone lives in a watershed. It's a way of dividing up the land, not by roads or counties, but by topography.
Delaware is divided into four large watersheds, indicated by the four colors in the map below. These watersheds are further divided into 45 smaller sub-watersheds, which drain into creeks and streams. The individual “watershed” areas shown on this map drain to the respective identified watercourses.
Just about everything we do at home, school, work or play affects the watershed we live in. Every time we flush a toilet, sprinkle fertilizer on our lawns, build new houses, or widen a highway, we impact the waterways around us for generations to come.
Remember, clean water begins with YOU!
