Drainage System Inventory

DelDOT is locating, inventorying and performing maintenance inspections of all components of its stormwater drainage system throughout the state. The locations of all components, including inlets, outfalls, pipes, manholes and swales are recorded with a global positioning system (GPS) and used to create a map of the drainage system.

A marker is placed in a visible location at each drainage inlet after itis inspected. The marker features the water quality message "ONLY RAIN DOWN THE STORM DRAIN". These markers will serve as a reminder to all of us that what we put on the land eventually ends up in our waterways.

Regular inspection and maintenance of the storm sewer system is a high priority for DelDOT. Keeping all components in good repair is essential for preventing floods and protecting water quality.
