We are committed to maintaining the privacy and security of
the personal information of all visitors to this site to the
fullest extent permissible by law.
Information Collected at this site:
When you visit
www.deldot.gov, some basic information may be automatically
sent to us by your web browser. This information is
used solely to help us make this site more useful to visitors,
to learn about the number of visitors to our site, and types
of technology they use. All of this helps us ensure
that this site is as useful as possible. Basic information
that may be collected is:
- Internet domain and IP address from which visitor accessed our site
- Type of browser and operating system used to access our site
- Date and time visitor accessed our site
- Specific pages visited
- If visitor linked to www.deldot.gov from another Web site, the address of that Web site
Individual DelDOT Web Accounts:
In addition to the above information, visitors who select to
receive certain services, such as the subscription service
notification of Press Releases and Traffic Reports via email,
will be required to establish a DelDOT Web Account and
provide the following information:
- User Name
- Last Name
- First Name
- Password
- Email address
Use of Cookies:
Visitors to the www.deldot.gov
can access the Web site without accepting cookies.
However, in order to create and utilize a DelDOT Web Account, a session cookie
(see description below) will need to be stored temporarily on your computer
upon login. The only information stored in this
cookie is a session id, used to identify you as an individual
user as you navigate the site. Personal information
such as your real name, demographic information, etc. is not stored.
What is a Cookie?
There are two general types of cookies that web sites make use of:
- Session cookies -- these are cookies created by a
web site that exist only as long as your visit to that
web site. They are not stored permanently on
your computer.
- Persistent cookies -- these cookies are stored on
your computer by a web site for some period of time and
are used when you return to that site in the future.
What exactly does a cookie do?
A cookie provides a way for a web site to keep track of a user's patterns
and preferences. Cookies contain a range of web
site addresses for which they are valid. When a
user’s web browser encounters those addresses again, it sends
those specific cookies to the Web server. For example, if
a user's specific preferences were stored as a cookie, it
would save that person from typing in the same information
all over again when accessing that service for the second
and subsequent times.
What won't a cookie do?
Certain web-based applications operated by Delaware State agencies
(e.g. Delaware Division of Revenue on-line tax filing, personalized
Delaware.gov Web Portal Account) may require users to establish
a user ID and password that can be different from the DelDOT
Web Account. A cookie that is stored on your computer
for these applications WILL NOT incorporate
these separate user ID's and passwords. When accessing
these applications through the Delaware.gov Portal,
even with a personalized page, you will need to separately
enter and/or store your user information as required by the
agency operating the application. Should a third party
use your computer they WILL NOT have
access to personal information (e.g., your name or e-mail
address) simply by virtue of having cookies stored on your
computer.
What options do I have with respect to cookies?
You can have your browser disable cookies or prompt you before
accepting a cookie. Look for the cookie options in your browser
in the "Options" or "Preferences" menu. However,
if you choose to disable cookies, you will not be able to
create and use a DelDOT Web Account or sign up for associated services.
