Press Release -- September 10, 2008
TRAFFIC ALERT - I-95 Fifth Lane Project: Sept. 12 & 14-19
Wilmington --
The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that the two right lanes on I-95 northbound from the Christina River Bridge to the Route 141 interchange will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sept. 12 and Sept. 14-19. This will close the I-295 eastbound exit and Route 141 northbound exit 5B. Expect delays.
The inclement weather expected this weekend has moved the paving work from around the clock this weekend to separate nighttime closures. The detour is Route 273 eastbound to Route 1 southbound to Route 13 northbound to Route 141 or I-295 eastbound.
The mill and overlay will create a new road surface and fresh striping on I-95 to accommodate for the new fifth lane between the Route 1/7 interchange to the I-495 split. This construction work will be weather dependent. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.
Please note the following impacts on the I-95 area are still in effect:
I-95 southbound ramp to Churchmans Road (Exit 4B) will be closed starting at 1 a.m. Wednesday, September 17 until 1 a.m. Wednesday, October 1. This is weather dependent.
I-95 northbound ramp to Route 141 southbound (Exit 5A) is closed until project completion.
I-95 milling and paving rehabilitation project from Route 202/Concord Pike to the Pennsylvania state line requires nighttime lane closures.
Delaware River & Bay Authority's I-295 ramp and approach improvements to the Delaware Memorial Bridge require lane closures. For more information, visit www.drba.net.
Richard E. Pierson Construction Company, Inc. of Swedesboro, N.J. is executing the I-95 fifth lane-widening project. The $55 million job will be complete by the end of this year. The fifth-lane widening project is part of a multi-year, multi-project Interstate Improvement Program that has included work at the Churchmans Road/Route 7 intersection and the Churchmans Road Bridge over I-95; and will also include the upcoming work at the Route 1/I-95 interchange.
