Construction of Dover Toll Plaza Highway Speed E-ZPass Requires Lane Closures

Dover -- The Department of Transportation announces that as construction continues on the Dover Toll Plaza's Highway Speed E-ZPass lanes, some toll lanes will be restricted in the coming weeks. As promised, two toll lanes will remain open in each direction during the duration of the project.

All next week, November 3-7, crews will be removing topsoil in the areas north and south of the Dover Toll Plaza, which will require some lane restrictions. After next week, various toll lanes will be closed for ongoing construction of the highway speed lanes.

Motorists should stay alert for lane restrictions approaching the toll plaza, and remember to stay in their lane once at the toll plaza.

This project will enhance the Dover Toll Plaza by converting it from 12 traditional booths to six traditional booths and four highway speed E-ZPass lanes. The new configuration will feature three traditional booths in each direction and two highway speed E-ZPass lanes in each direction. The highway speed lanes will have no impediments like concrete barriers since E-ZPass toll collection systems are suspended above the lanes. The project is expected to be completed by Memorial Day 2004.
