Route 1 - Dover Toll Plaza Reconstruction Apparent Low Bidder Announced
Dover --
The Department of Transportation names David A. Bramble, Inc. the apparent low bidder for a project to modify and add highway speed E-ZPass lanes to the Route 1 Dover Toll Plaza. The Chestertown, Maryland-based firm cast a bid of $7,733,876.06, the lowest of three bids.
The project will enhance the Dover Toll Plaza by converting the existing Plaza design from 12 traditional booths to six traditional booths and four highway speed E-ZPass lanes. The new configuration will feature three traditional booths in each direction and two highway speed E-ZPass lanes in each direction. The highway speed lanes will have no impediments like concrete barriers since E-ZPass toll collection systems are suspended above the lanes.
Construction will start in August and will continue during the Fall NASCAR races; however, all lanes will be available during race weekend. After the NASCAR races, lane operations will be curtailed; leaving only three lanes open during peak hours, and two lanes open during non-peak hours. This configuration is expected to last through Memorial Day, 2004, when the project is scheduled for completion.
A permanent safety barrier will be installed and approach signage will be displayed to alert motorists.
