Construction To Start On Covered Bridge On Smith Bridge Road Over The Brandywine Creek

The Delaware Department of Transportation announces that on Monday, July 29 construction will begin on the replacement of Bridge 9 on Smith Bridge Road. Eastern States Construction Services, Inc., is the contractor on the project.
The project involves replacing the current structure with a one-lane covered bridge. In addition, the roadway approach to the bridge will be realigned to provide improved sight distance. The design plans for this project were developed in conjunction with a community Working Group.
The detour route will be Smith Bridge Road to Ramsey Road to Thompsons Bridge Road to Montchanin Road back to Smith Bridge Road.
December 15 is the anticipated completion date of the project.
