Project Limits
SR1 North of Milford to the Delaware/Maryland State Line
Project Need
The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) is undertaking a planning study to consider improvements for the US113 Corridor from the vicinity of SR1 north of Milford to the Delaware/Maryland state line. The US113 North/South Study is the next step in the overall planning process for this corridor. This effort is a follow-up to a previously completed feasibility study (Sussex County North-South Feasibility Study in July 2001. The exact nature and scope of potential projects is not yet known. The need for and type of improvements at specific locations along the corridor will be identified as we move forward with the project development process.
The Goals, Objectives and Study Areas for the US 113 North/South Study are outlined below:
The Goals of the US 113 Study are:
- To address existing and future transportation needs along US 113 while preserving environmental and historic resources and accommodating planned economic growth.
- To determine how to convert US 113 to a limited access highway.
- To preserve, where possible, the existing north/south corridor in Sussex County.
The Objectives of the US 113 Study are:
- To coordinate with Sussex and Kent Counties and the affected municipalities throughout the study process.
- To conduct the studies in accordance with federal and state regulations.
- To keep the public informed about the status of the US 113 North/South Study.
While producing an integrated package of recommended improvements for the entire length of US 113 through Sussex County the study will focus on three areas.
The US 113 Study Areas are:
- Milford Area
- Ellendale Area
- Georgetown – South Area (Georgetown, Millsboro, Dagsboro, Frankford and Selbyville)
Alternatives for converting US 113 to a limited access highway will be developed, discussed with the public, evaluated and refined resulting in selection of preferred improvements in each Study Area.
