Route 1 Expansion Project from Route 24 to Route 9/Five Points Intersection
|
Project History:
This project was identified as part of the Year 2000 Highway Safety Improvement Program. A total of 460 accidents were reported within the limits of the site including 296 or 65% rear-end accidents. Approximately twice as many southbound rear end accidents were reported than northbound rear end accidents. This section of southbound SR 1 currently has constrained capacity and the addition of a third travel lane will not only improve capacity, but will provide flexibility in coordinating the traffic signals to improve traffic flow on SR 1. This project also adds a sidewalk and “green area” that is consistent with the Charles B. Mills Boulevard concept. |
