Project Updates:
August 4, 2009 On Saturday, August 1, the contractor placed hot mix on the north and south approaches to the Puncheon Run bridge. Paving of the approaches to the bridge is to be completed, temporary striping placed, and the roadway reopened to traffic by Tuesday, August 4. While the road will be open, traffic restrictions will be necessary as the remaining work in Phase 1 gets finished. North of the bridge, utility installation continues towards Wyoming Avenue. July 21, 2009 The project is on track for the reopening of the bridge by the end of July. Brick fascia work at the bridge should be completed this week. Fill placement on the north side of the bridge is underway. Base hot-mix placement on the south side of the bridge and on Southbee Drive is in progress. Preparations are underway for placement of a few missing curb sections south of the bridge and new sidewalk. The City of Dover is placing light pole bases which will allow the contractor to run lighting conduit for the new street lights. Sample cores were taken at the Webbs Lane intersection to determine whether full reconstruction is needed. Drainage work continues north of the bridge on the east side of South Governors Avenue. July 7, 2009 DelDOT is targeting the reopening of the bridge and the road for the end of
July. More specifics will be posted as work continues. June 23, 2009 Work is continuing on a section of the retaining wall where a utility pole is in conflict. Parapet work continues on a retaining wall. Brickwork is underway at the bridge. Despite the weather, a curb was poured last week along the east side of the road south of the bridge. Additional curb work will continue this week. Grading is underway for property tie-ins and sidewalk. Water service tie-ins are being completed between Puncheon Run and Wyoming Avenue. All aerial utilities should be switched over and buried underground within a couple of weeks. June 16, 2009 A utility pole remains in conflict with a retaining wall being placed on South Governors Avenue. Crews are working around the problem until the pole is removed, which can only be done after the concrete footer and wall are poured. Brick work has begun at the new bridge. Additional curb work is scheduled south of the bridge. Construction crews will also begin grading for property tie-ins and sidewalks. Tie-ins of water service continue between Wyoming Avenue and the Puncheon Run. Drainage work is ongoing on the west side of Governors Avenue, and will continue onto Wyoming Avenue. May 27, 2009 Concrete has been poured and the bridge deck, as well as the approach slabs, are curing. The sidewalk across the bridge has been poured. Work to form and pour the parapets and at the retaining walls continues.
May 18, 2009 The bridge deck pour has been successfully. Crews worked on pouring the approach slabs last week. Once the approach slabs are completed, the Contractor will begin work to bring the new roadway up to the proper elevation to tie-in to the bridge. The Contractor continues work for the "box-out" of shoulder areas south of the bridge, and curb crews will soon begin work as well. Water main installation at the S. Governors Avenue and Wyoming Avenue intersection will continue this week, and the Contractor has begun drainage work north of Puncheon Run. May 8, 2009 Work continues to pour the bridge deck, however the weather has not been as cooperative as is needed. Work on the approach slabs will begin after the deck has been poured. Sanitary sewer repairs south of the bridge have been completed. Water mains are being installed. The contractor will begin drainage work north of the Puncheon Run this week. The contractor is also continuing to box-out of shoulder areas on the west side of South Governors Avenue. The next scheduled South Governors Avenue Working Group meeting will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2009. April 7, 2009 Work continues on the retaining walls at the bridge, while crews prepare to form and place rebar for the new deck. With drainage tie-ins at Webbs Lane completed, the contractor is focusing on drainage work south of the bridge (which should be completed within the next two weeks). Final tie-ins for underground utilities south of the bridge are also underway. An agreement has been reached with the contractor to allow the former concrete roadway to remain in place, in lieu of removal and backfill on the approaches to the Puncheon Run Bridge. This is important as the new roadway profile will be raised several feet (per plan) to tie-in to the new bridge. The next scheduled South Governors Avenue Working Group Meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 14 March 31, 2009 While construction continues on the bridge retaining walls, the contractor is prepping for rebar work on the new deck. The drainage tie-ins at Webbs Lane have been completed, with all drainage south of the bridge anticipated for completion within the next two weeks. Final tie-ins for the underground utilities south of the bridge are also underway. Once drainage work and tie-ins are fully complete south of the bridge, new road box construction can begin. Daisy Construction is also making a push to proceed north of the bridge with underground work. March 17, 2009 Construction continues on forming, placing rebar, and pouring retaining walls at the bridge over Puncheon Run. Work is progressing on the placement of channel bed fill in the river, utilizing stream diversions. The bridge subcontractor plans to set the first pre-cast beams this week. Simultaneously, Daisy is tying in drainage to Webb's Lane. Water service tie-ins south of the bridge should be complete this week, allowing for the abandonment of the old water main. Once this occurs, final tie-ins for the underground utilities south of the bridge will take place. As much of their new underground facilities are in place, Verizon has started removing old aerial line south of the bridge. A Utility Coordination Meeting is scheduled for March 17 to insure Daisy has addressed everything each utility company needs to complete their relocations (from aerial to underground locations.). March 10, 2009 At the bridge, work continues on the north abutment and on retaining walls. The bridge subcontractor plans to set precast beams within the next few weeks. Now that the weather has cleared, Daisy Construction has resumed drainage installation and water service tie-ins south of the bridge. March 4, 2009 At the bridge, work continues on the north abutment and on retaining walls. Simultaneously, we are installing riprap and streambed material. The contractor had planned on continuing drainage installation and water service tie-ins south of the bridge this week. However, recent winter weather has delayed this work. Next Tuesday, March 10, the Governors Avenue Construction Working Group will convene for its monthly meeting. February 24, 2009 At the bridge, work continues on the north abutment and on retaining walls. Daisy Construction continues drainage installation and water service tie-ins south of the bridge. Beginning mid-week, crews are planning to abandon the old water line south of the bridge, and will cap the old line at the Webbs Lane intersection. This work should extend into next week. In addition, Daisy's sub-contractor will install cured-in-place pipelining of the City's sewer line between Webbs Lane and the bridge, eliminating the full removal and replacement of approximately 800 linear feet of sewer noted on the original plans. February 17, 2009 There are no changes to the project managers' report from last week (At the bridge, work continues on the north abutment and on retaining walls. The contractor continues drainage installation and water service tie-ins south of the bridge and water main installation north of the bridge.
