The project is located along the SR 1 corridor in the town of Little Heaven, Kent County, Delaware. The approximate limits are from south of Barretts Chapel Rd to north of Mulberrie Point Rd.

The SR1, Grade Separated Intersection Project was identified through the Corridor Capacity Preservation Program as a potential grade separated intersection location. Conceptual alternatives were developed, and a Preferred Alternative was selected. The Preferred Alternative includes a bridge carrying SR1 over Bowers Beach Road, as well as service roads running adjacent to both sides of SR1 for access to the many existing and proposed developments along the corridor. The project will improve the local road network while helping to preserve the capacity of SR1.

The project began August 25, 2003. Six alternatives were developed and presented to the public at a workshop on July 20, 2004. Based on input from the public, natural and cultural resources agencies, and emergency response units, a preferred alternative was selected and presented to the public at a workshop on October 26, 2004. The environmental investigation and documentation process is currently on-going. The final design phase will begin in the fall of 2006.

Construction could occur as early as the spring of 2010.
