Wilmington – The Department of Transportation announces that R.E. Pierson, Inc., of Pilesgrove, New Jersey, was the low bidder for the second contract of the Blue Ball Properties Project along US Route 202. The Company being the lowest of six bidders, offering a bid of $21,210,706.90, was awarded the contract.

This contract is the second major roadway project for the Blue Ball improvements. It consists of the widening and reconstruction of an approximately one-mile section of Route 202 from the Augustine-Cutoff to Independence Mall. In addition to the improvements on Route 202 the project will include the construction of two new underpasses beneath Route 202 at both East Park Drive and the Foulk Road/Route141 Spur. The project will also include the relocation of Weldin Road so it will intersect with Foulk Road. During this construction traffic will be diverted from Route 202 onto a temporary six-lane roadway.

Construction is scheduled to begin towards the end of this year, and will take approximately 758 calendar days to complete. All bids were subject to review before final approval.
