Bridges Over  the C & D Canal

When travelling through Delaware, we routinely cross bridges both large and small.   Aside from the Delaware Memorial Bridge's twin spans, several other large spans exist.  In southern New Castle County, the 5 bridges that criss-cross the Chesapeake and Delaware (C & D) Canal are the Route 9 Bridge, the old St. George's Bridge, the new SR1 Bridge, the Summit Bridge and the Conrail Railroad Bridge. See their pictures below. The C & D Canal provides a shipping lane between the Delaware Bay and the Chesapeake Bay. Click here to see the C&D Canal Recreational Study.
