How to Apply to the Transportation Enhancements Program
Please review the Guidelines before applying to the Transportation Enhancements Program.
To apply to the Transportation Enhancements Program, please submit a letter of interest that includes
the following information:
Who:
- Identify the Sponsor - the government or non-profit organization spearheading the project
- Identify a Primary Contact - the point person for the Sponsor organization, include phone
and e-mail contact information
- Identify Co-Sponsors - any group that is helping to contribute technically or financially
What & Where:
- Describe the Reason - the problem, need or desire driving the proposed project
- Describe the Product - what the resulting project includes (infrastructure or documents, etc.
- Describe the Location - the project boundaries (if relevant)
- Describe any Community Interaction - the groups that have helped to identify the need, raised
awareness, or worked to resolve the issue
Keep in Mind:
- The project must be related to surface transportation and be for public use
- Largest award is $1 million
- You are not required to have a concept plan or design
- Matching funds can not be other US DOT funds
How:
- Describe Eligibility - identify the eligible activity and why you think it qualifies
- Identify Matching Funds - how funds will be raised or obtained

Due to the abundance of applications, the projects are prioritized by date.
