Route 9 Coastal Heritage Scenic Byway

Route 9 is the essence of Delaware. For 50 miles between the Colonial Courthouse in the City of New Castle, and the John Dickinson Plantation, Delaware's two-lane Route 9 runs in a north-south direction in a course that parallels the western shore of the Delaware River and Bay, winding past a succession of uniquely Delaware landscapes: heavily industrial sites, forests, tidal and non-tidal marshlands, areas of significant natural resources and wildlife habitat, historic towns and quaint villages, and working farms with cultivated fields of grain, corn and soybeans.*
