Don Carbaugh Don, shown with his titanium Spectrum, is the Bicycle Council's former chairman, and has been active in bicycle advocacy for over ten years. He was first appointed to the Council in 1993 as the New Castle County representative. Known for his soft-spoken, even handed approach, he is well respected throughout the cycling, government, and political communities.

Getting in between 2000 and 5000 miles annually, Don is one of only seven cyclists to complete all the Cycling Across Maryland (CAM) Tours since its inception 14 years ago. His riding interests include club rides, centuries, and other recreational opportunities where he can meet with other cyclists. He is also certified by the League of American Bicyclists as a "BikeEd" Instructor, and is very active in teaching bicycling safety.

Under Don's steady leadership, the Council has added six additional seats, expanded its committees, and completed a strategic plan. The Council is now more active than ever. As one of his peers observed, "Don works hard to build a consensus. He's always willing to listen to cyclists, and reach out to those that haven't been included before. The relationships the Council has forged with Legislators have benefited cyclists across the State."

Living in the Brandywine Hundred area of New Castle County, Don retired from DuPont in 2000 after a 35-year career as a Chemical Engineer. He is active in a number of other bicycling, transportation and civic organizations. His other interests includes computers, photography, classical music, and Pug dogs. He is also affectionately known among cyclists for his voluminous caloric intake whenever he dines out.
