5th Annual "Imagine A Litter-Free Delaware" Clean Up Day
Yes, it's that time of year again - time for the Department of Transportation's annual "Imagine A Litter Free Delaware" Clean Up Day. Can you believe we are in our fifth year already? As a part of DelDOT's Adopt-A-Highway Program, this event invites everyone to come out to do their part to cleanup Delaware….be it roadsides, streets, sidewalks or their own front yard. DelDOT has designated Saturday, September 26, 2009, as the statewide cleanup day. It's also an opportunity for everyone to stop and consider what a litter-free Delaware would look like, and work to make it a reality. In addition, Secretary Carolann Wicks has requested that DelDOT's maintenance crews place special emphasis on roadside maintenance during the week of September 28-October 2, 2009. So you'll see DelDOT crews out in force too! Of course, be sure to think "Safety First!" Interested individuals or groups should register now and then visit their DelDOT district office to obtain safety information, safety vests and trash bags the week of September 21-25, 2009. DelDOT encourages recycling of plastics, glass, aluminum, etc. Filled trash bags should be placed near a traffic sign for DelDOT to pick up or disposed of properly (with household trash pick up, landfill, etc.). Following your cleanup, it's very important to contact the district office to let them know the location of these filled trash bags so they can be removed as soon as possible. And as always, be sure to remind your group to think, "Safety First!" by reviewing the attached safety tips with each participant. (Adopt- A-Highway groups should also remember to complete an activity report to receive credit for their cleanup.) There is no fee to participate, just a desire to have fun! The rain date for the cleanup day will be Sunday, September 27, 2009.
