Stay Informed & Alert This Labor Day Weekend
Dover -- The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) reminds all motorists to expect heavy traffic in all parts of the state this Labor Day weekend. In anticipation of the expected Labor Day traffic, DelDOT crews will be well equipped to handle many types of traffic conditions.
Planned lane closures on Delaware's major roadways, Route 1, I-95, and U.S. Route 202 will be suspended on Friday, August 30. Traffic accidents and other unpredictable types of transportation incidents may cause delays or lane closures.
Motorists can adjust their routes or travel times by using DelDOT's Smartphone application. The DelDOT App is available for Apple & Android smart phones and tablets, and can be downloaded free at the Apple and Google Play stores or go to DelDOT and click on the link to stores.
DelDOT's Transportation Management Center (TMC) monitors over 5,500 miles of state-maintained roads around the clock. TMC personnel will observe the state-wide road network and adjust traffic signals in response to increased congestion or incidents. Motorists can contact the TMC 24/7 to report any travel or traffic related issues at the following numbers: Dial #77 from any cell phone; (302) 659-4600 or 1-800-324-8379.
Motorists who have EZPass will be able to maintain regular highway speed through the EZPass Highway Speed Lanes at I-95 Newark, Route 1-Biddle's Corner, and Route 1-Dover Toll Plazas. In order to keep pace with the traditionally large southbound traffic volumes on Friday and northbound volumes on Sunday and Monday, extra toll collectors will be manning the tollbooths at all three Delaware toll facilities throughout the weekend.
DART First State bus services, both fixed route and paratransit, will not operate on Monday, September 2, with the exception of the Resort Transit Routes 201-208, its related paratransit service, and Route 305 - Beach Connection. Monday, September 2 is the last day of operation for Route 305 - Beach Connection; however, the Resort Transit Routes will continue to provide a reduced service schedule through Sunday, September 15, serving Rehoboth, Lewes, Georgetown, Dewey, Bethany, Fenwick Island and Ocean City, MD. Transit information can be found at DART First State
Motorists looking for a break during their travels can stop at the I-95 Service Plaza or the Smyrna Rest Area just off of Exit 119 on Route 1.
