TRAFFIC ALERT - NEW UPDATE: Replacement of Bridge on Chesapeake City Road
Middletown -- WHEN: 7 AM on Monday, March 11 until Friday, May 31, pending weather
WHERE: Bridge over Guthrie Run on Chesapeake City Road, northwest of Summit Bridge
WHAT: DelDOT's contractor, Mumford & Miller Concrete, Inc., will be replacing the bridge with precast concrete beams, reconstructing the roadway approaches, replacing guardrail as needed, and riprap in the streambed to prevent further erosion. This project is funded, in part, using Innovative Bridge Research and Deployment program funds.
Truck restriction signs have been posted on Dennys Road and Steele Road. Delaware State Police will begin truck enforcement in this area.
All motorists are now being directed as follows:
Westbound traffic on Chesapeake City Road will turn right onto Frazer Road, and will follow Frazer Road all the way to Route 40. They will take a left, and take Route 40 into Maryland, and take a left onto Rt. 213. Existing detour signage for will take you the rest of the way back to Chesapeake City Road.
Eastbound traffic is being taken off of Steele Road and sent up (north) Knights Corner Road (to the west of Steele Road), left onto Elk Forest Road, and then a right onto Rt. 213. Traffic will then follow the detour to Route 40 and back around to Routes 896, 71, and then Chesapeake City Road.
Motorists are urged to use this detour route to get around the closure of Chesapeake City Road.
Variable message boards will be placed to notify motorists of the upcoming closure.
