Press Release -- February 01, 2013
DelDOT Crews Clear Away Latest Snowfall

Dover -- Early this morning, several hundred crew members from the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) were out on key roadways putting down salt. This morning's forecast is for up to four inches of accumulation in Kent and Sussex Counties, and a bit less in New Castle County. Snow appears heaviest in the Dover area, but the storm is expected to taper off this morning.

Managing snowfall that commences with rush hour traffic is one of the most difficult challenges DelDOT crews face; especially when conditions differ significantly from forecasts. While roads can be pre-treated with salt, removing snow accumulation when traffic is heaviest complicates the job. Motorists can help by staying off the roads if possible, and by giving DelDOT trucks plenty of room to maneuver. Motorists should keep their speed down, their vehicle lights on and keep a safe distance behind other traffic.
