Secretary Bhatt Chairs I-95 Corridor Coalition
Team will address safety and traffic along Interstate 95
Dover -- Delaware Department of Transportation Secretary Shailen Bhatt has been named Chairperson of the Interstate-95 Corridor Coalition.
The Coalition is a partnership of transportation agencies and related organizations, from Maine to Florida and in Canada, working together to accelerate improvements in transportation across multiple jurisdictions and throughout all transportation modes.
The Coalition has been instrumental in creating and coordinating transportation systems between the jurisdictions covering the I-95 region, including electronic tolling activities between states; educating transportation professionals on logistics through its Freight and Operations Academy; development of travel information services, particularly mobile real time traffic notification applications; intermodal studies and projects for freight logistics and marine transportation; electronic payment systems and services; and commercial vehicle information data sharing.
"The Coalition plays an important role in coordinating efforts among states and transit agencies to ensure travelers on the Corridor get to their destinations. We are also sensitive to the need for the Coalition to address traffic congestion, unsafe road conditions, and loss of travel time. In addition, we're striving for better coordination among transportation agencies during weather events," said Secretary Bhatt.
